Occupational Therapy vs. Physical Therapy
Occupational therapy is the treatment established to develop, regain, or maintain the activities of daily living and work skills for patients with physical or mental conditions after an illness or an injury. OT’s utilize a client centered practice that focuses on progress towards the patient’s goals. Interventions include: graded strengthening exercises, fine motor and gross motor coordination activities, therapeutic modalities, manual therapy, adapting the environment, modifying work or daily living skills task, teaching skills, and educating patient/family/employer in order to increase participation and meet established goals.
Bolanos Associate’s experienced Occupational Therapists specialize in the treatment of neurological and orthopedic conditions. All of our Occupational Therapists are hand therapists that are highly trained in all Upper Extremity Injuries, including: post-op surgical diagnosis and wound care. Our goal for each patient is to resume with their activities of daily living and return to work as quickly and safely as possible. At Bolanos Associates, employers and patients alike can expect a decrease in the risk of re-injury by receiving both formal education and a tailored home exercise program developed by their treating Occupational Therapist.
Physical therapy is the treatment established to develop, regain, or maintain the mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement through evaluation and intervention. PT’s utilize joint and spine mobilization/manipulation, manual traction, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular reeducation, modalities and educate the patient/family/employer in an effort to increase participation and meet set goals. Bolanos Associate’s experienced Physical Therapists specialize in diagnosing, managing and treating injuries and disorders involving bones, muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments, including both neurological and orthopedic conditions.
All of our Physical Therapists are highly trained in all post-operative procedures, fractures, sprains/strains, acute sports injuries, arthritis, cervical or lumbar disorders and amputations of the lower extremities. The goal for each patient is to restore, maintain function, improve quality of life and assist in managing the disease process. At Bolanos Associates, employers and patients can expect a decrease in the risk of re-injury by receiving fitness guidance, wellness oriented programs, and home exercise routines from their treating Physical Therapist.
